So with the new 50,000 gold option put up on Kongregate I decided to look once more into what the exchange rates are for gold. All my numbers are in CAD (Canadian Dollars), so the relative ratios will be off by whatever exchange rate is currently being used. So here are my figures:

As we can see here, buying with your cell with the OLD OPTIONS is the WORST exchange rate at only 44 GOLD/CAD. Next is simply through credit card, where not matter what you buy you will always get 89 GOLD/CAD.

The NEW MOBILE OPTIONS are better than the credit card options, all giving 95 GOLD/CAD. This is even better than the cheapest Kreds option.

Going to Kongregate you can see that as you buy more gold you actually get a discount, from 91 GOLD/CAD to 136 GOLD/CAD for the old offers. The best deal for gold however is the largest option at 50,000 GOLD for 110CAD. This option is available both through Kongregate and PayPal and will net you 455 GOLD/CAD.

So in the end if you do wish to play this game for a good length of time (I'm thinking 6+ months) then you should go ahead and buy the 50k gold as you will then be set for life (unless you use massive amounts of Roars, you know who you are), and you will get a shiny prize out of the mix too.

Payment beyond the usage of Kreds is done by a third party who charges commission.

Basically, you get the best money for gold value through Kongregate.

That explains the terrible exchange rates, thanks Laxaria. So if you do want to buy gold, definately avoid these 3rd parties.

If I recall, Kongregate is the only system that allows microtransactions to take place within the game through the Kred system. I highly don't think SacredSeasons utilises any other provider for its micro-transactions, other than the third party that is used to tackle credit card charging.

IIRC, playing on the SS website will give a different set of charge rates, but I am unsure about this.

Thanks for the numbers marakesh! I have updated my post to include them, I assumed these were the PayPal numbers which I do not see in the Kong version. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I also converted them to CAD so that they can be compared. As you can see Kong is still the preferred place. Jamie must like how they funnel all the money right to him as compared to other sources.

I'm just a little bitter having spent 40USD so far on 6000 GOLD whereas had I joined now I could have just dropped the 70USD and be done donating to SS. I would be very willing to spend another 30USD to get the balance 34,000 GOLD... but that doesn't look like an option.

I've only spent $30 for 4300 gold, but I still feel like I'm in the same boat as you. I feel a little bitter too that I didn't -KNOW- I had the option, and it sort of feels like a wasted $30. I would consider paying $40 to make up the balance, but don't think I could ever justify paying another 70 on top of what I've already sunk into this game.

SUGGESTION: I think something retroactive should be done for kong users who bought gold with credits before this recent pricing change to get a chance to take advantage of the 50k gold offer, whereas most of them (myself included) didn't even know about it.

For me, these are still pretty bad deals considering the kred exchange rate. Does anyone else get such a raw deal with phone gold?

Its mainly to offer those who can't use Paypal/Credit Cards another form of purchase.

I agree that this is a very good, especially since everyone doesn't have access to a credit card. You no longer have to feel ripped off buying with your phone. However, the best options still lie with the Kongregate and PayPal paths.

Nowhere, you'll have to check on your own which deal is the best one for you. Personally, I would make sure to buy ingame gold with Kreds on Kongregate tho. If something goes wrong with the payment (for example, missing out on gold you paid for), Kongregate support will help you out where waiting for Jamie to fix it for you might take months.
